A DIFFERENT WAY TO LEARN.

Kids with dyslexia often think, imagine, and create in beautifully different ways—and that means they need to learn differently, too. While there are many resources available, they’re often expensive and out of reach for many families. I wanted to change that. These sound cards are a free tool I once made for myself when I was learning to read. Now, I’m sharing them so that other kids can experience a more creative, accessible, and empowering path to literacy.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE DESIGN.

My reading tutor was also an artist, and she brought creativity into every lesson. She had a gift for making words leap off the page and come alive. One of her favorite techniques was to let me draw a picture of the word, letter, or sound on a flashcard. We’d go over them again and again, using those drawings to help the words stick. This approach made it easier for me to memorize sight words and understand sounds. It was playful, visual, and—most importantly—it worked.

STUNNING CONCEPTS THAT SPARKED A DREAM.

After years of working together, my tutor would often say, “We need to keep these cards.” That simple idea planted the seed. What started as a personal tool for learning slowly grew into something more—a vision to help other kids who learn like I do. Today, that dream continues to take shape as we work together to create meaningful, effective sound cards that support and inspire young readers.

From Thought to Form: How Each Word Begins Its Journey by Hand

Before any card becomes a polished learning tool, it starts in the most personal way—through hand-drawn exploration.
I begin by visualizing the word—its form, its rhythm, its feeling. That vision guides me as I sketch a sound card that reflects the concept behind the word. These first versions are made on paper, where each line captures a moment of discovery. It’s only after this initial, analog process that the design moves into Illustrator to become something printable.
